For those that missed the action this past weekend at the Lynwood Dragway.......There was a lot of hot and heavy action. I just want to mention that the Top Fuel semi finals would have been very interesting. There was a Walburn 2speed (Gary Puhl),GRAND MOTORSPORTS 2 sp(Rey Perez), Litespeed DD (Ken Skinner), and Melvin Aston with his home built DD that was screaming all week-end.
The stage was set for a David V/S Goliat showdown if it had not been for the sudden rainfall. Alas the race was called and they went to the score card(et's) With the DD's running in the 1.4's (Melvin) and low 1.6's(Ken) they were declared the winner and runner up, it's too bad the rain came because as we all know anything can happen on the line.
Congrats to Melvin, you are the MAN...you ran flawless all weekend and Ken Skinner" Tu-Slow"

well for those of us who watched the action this summer i think its fair for me to say if you wont a low 1.5 or less you wont a Direct drive,, if that is not what you are looking for then belt drive is for you ,,, im not saying they cant do it but it ain't ez the guys i see running belt drive have only got as low as 1.67 if they got lower then that i wasnt there ,,, ,,,,, please share with me your thought ,, i bought a belt drive and never ran it after watching the direct drive go in the 1.5,s over and over,, my reason was that what the go fast boyz run,,,,like i always say (I WANT ONE OF THEM GO FAST CARS TOO),,,,,

Hey Pred, It is possible to run some 5's with a 2speed. Gary Pulh has done it and I also have run several high 1.5s w/ my Grand Motorsports rail......unforunately late in the season but none the less it can be done. Although I have to admit that it is not as easy to do so due to the BIG weight difference compared to the Direct Drive. I hope that next year some of the rules can be changed to level the playing field.....at least at our home track for starters. I believe that either the DD's run their own class like they used too(Extreme) or they should raise the weight limit on these rails to say maybe 45oz. which is closer to what a 2 speed rail weighs. This is just my opinion, it might not be a popular one but like I said its my 2cents.

Gary Pugh I have seen Mike Burnette and Jeff Schmidt run 1.5's with 2 speeds also.

Thanks for that Paul, when I mentioned Gary and myself I did not mean that we were the only ones to have run fives with a 2 speed.

Yeah, I know. You four are all that I can think of for a 2 speed car. Not many people have done it, and it takes the perfect run to do it. No easy feat. It reminds me of the late 80's in real top fuel. 2 speeds were the name of the game, and then some of the mid pack guys came out with direct drive, and once they got the gear ratio figured out, went to the top of the pack for awhile.

I remember when all of the craze was getting a promod to get a 2.0 run, then StangRey showed us that Lipo cars where not to be played with running speeds and et's that shocked us all!!! Other than that we all thought that 1.8's 1.7's and 1.6's was a imaginary thing that the rest of the world was lying to us about. Than We Did It!!! I remember being told that DD was a joke and it wouldn't work against our trusty 2 speeds..... Opening day 2009 proved DD to be the only way to go!!! As time went on in the year Gary showed us that we bet not overlook 2 speeds then our own StangRey put his hardhat on and proved to us once again that 2 speeds aint out of the game. BigWill layed down 1.3's in 3s Topfuel fashion, CRAZY!!! Point is we here in Chicago came along way, but the true question is where will we go??? Chi-Town is without a doubt ON DA MAP!!! I seriously think 1.4's in TopFuel Nitro will be a normal thing in 2010....

Tuslow, you mean a Top Fuel NITRO car ran some 1.3's ? That is absolutely amazing man and HOPEFULLY with my dual plug head buttons and more testing with them, more power can be made and some nitros run even quicker/faster than ever. I like the competition between the DD and 2-speeds, keeps thing in perspective but I thought the DD's had a lighter weight that they run with versus the 2-speeds?

Hey Brent,,, I don't know if you have a way to see if those two plug motor,s are putting out more power or not ,,,Maybe you can work something out with Kevin from onstat with his dyno equipment,, to find out what the output before and after is ,,,, just a thought,, you can find Kevin on Lynwoodrcdragway site,,,,

The 2 plug head was done years ago and it did not show any improvement over a single plug head. The glow plugs we have now don't burn hot enough as it is to efficiantly burn the fuel as it is. Adding a second plug does not increase the heat of the glow plugs themselves. There is alot of performance to be gained in head volume and shape. The two glow plug design in its self eliminates the ability to change the volume and shape of the head its self. In a summary, its been done and shows no improvement.
As for nitro T/F, you will see more 1.4's this 2010 season. I have already been there and have been running consistant 1.50 - 1.52 runs. With some more testing in tire size and pipe combo's it will happen on a more consistant bases. Also I will be running a new motor combination from Litespeed we are going to test along with our tried and trued Kangaroo motor.

Hey Ken, I hear what you are saying BUT I definately have different buttons with different combustion chamber designs and to be honest, what you just said to me sounds EXACTLY like what Bill Litespeed said to me a few months ago so I guess you and him have talked about my none working buttons......lol. In fact Bill asked that when I get a few made up, he'd like to TEST one so I guess there's interest from your engine builder to "TRY" it again to see if there's a gain.....lol. In a summary, since you have not seen one my buttons, how do you know what can be done to the chamber volume/shape? I have one that is so small that a stock button volume is waaay more so changing shapes and volume sizes is no issue with the dual plugs. Since you say that there's power to be had in the combustion chamber shape/volume AND if you don't have the skills to make these buttons yourself, sometimes it is best to keep quiet and let it be tried again from someone that can get the right chambers/shapes made up WITH DUAL PLUGS. We'll soon see if the buttons work or not. Carry on .
