Hello Brian,
I really like your King Squid project, and wanting to try it myself. I have a dragster already. I have read the article for about 10 times now, but I couldn't find any info on how your mount the little motor on the regular motor mount for 540 size motors. I know there is an adaptor, but where did you get it from? Thanks.

Hi there! Glad you like the article... you know, I'm not 100% sure exactly where that part came from. It's just a little plastic part that screws in where the 540 goes, and then just has smaller spaced holes for the Mamba. I'll make a few phone calls, and try and figure out exactly what part # that is. It either came from a Castle Creations conversion or directly from Grand Motor Sports.

Here's the info direct from Mike Ogle of Grand Motor Sports.
The part is:
http://www.rc10.com/enlarge/9252.htm
Associated 9252... then you just drill the two outer holes in it for the regular
motor mounting
bolts. The two holes already in the part (a component of the slipper clutch)
actually fit the
little Mamba's motor mounting holes.
Hope this helps.
Brian
PS: Post some pics of the new ride! =)

Thanks a lot, Brian. I would have never imaging something like that is where it came from.
Enjoy your website very much. Keep it up.

I finally mounted up my comp X to my GM Dragspec kit ( Black Camaro in your gallery )and took it out for a run , with a Sub-C 6 cell battery ( GP 3900 ) , Deans plugs 15/87 Gearing and Default ESC settings ( soft start ) . When i hit the trigger it hesitated a bit ( battery is a bit too heavy ) then slowly moved foward for about 2 seconds , then all of a sudden a huge rush of power that spun the car around . I tried a few straight runs , but every time I squeezed the trigger to full throttle it would overpower the tyres and start drifting the back around . I dont think i will run my 3 cell LiPo unless it is on a prepared track , cos this little motor is a weapon . What a setup !.

Wowza!
Sounds like a good plan.
Do you have the USB cable for the Mamba controller? If you find that you have trouble with the speed, the thing is totally programmable! You can adjust EVERYTHING on any curve of power you want.. it's really pretty usefull, and somthing you might want to consider as a serious dragger.

Our local RC drag track does not allow Lipo for insurance reasons , so i had to use a 6 cell sub c pack and add 200 grams for it to be legal in any class . With that weight increase and voltage decrease it slowed the Comp x powered Dragspec to lower levels . It still hit a bit over 81 km/h though .
I now have the Mamba Max 7700 and 10 IB4200 WCE cells to slot into a new lighter graphite GMS 11 chassis that i just ordered . This will really go well . I will post some pics when complete .

Bummer about the Lipo.. could you add a 7th cell to bring up the weight? Or is there a voltage restriction?
Can't wait for the pics! Looking forward to them! Send us pics of this current set up if you haven't already. (But I think we have yours..

For a car to be legal in Doorslammer it must have a sedan or coupe body style with rear wheel drive only . There are certain wheelbase and width regulations as well as wing sizes rules . Maximum of 10 cells Nimh or Nicd and minimum weight of 1020 grams .
Anything can be raced or tested in bracket racing or test and tune events , but still no Lipo .
