2.4 GHz Transmitter Shootout – Weight
Whether it’s a long day of bashing, or a one hour a-main, a heavy radio can really do a number on your arm. Lately, most radios have become pretty light compared to stuff we were using just a few years ago. Go pick up your newest radio, then go find your oldest, yea.. modern technology is good. We decided to find out what the wright of our 2.4ghz radio’s were, and what ones would be easy on the muscles.
All radios were weighed with their batteries intact and ready for operation.
Remember, these scores are based on all of our individual scores added together.
Just like in golf, the lower the score, the better.
Points | Radio Name | Weight in Grams |
---|---|---|
1 | Tactic TTX-240 | 376g |
2 | Traxxas TQ 2.4 with Link | 421g |
3 | Spektrum DX3S | 425g |
4 | Futaba 3PL | 472g |
5 | Futaba 4PKS | 662g |
Over and over during testing, people would ask if the Tactic had batteries in it when they picked it up, and when I said ‘Yes it does’ they would still turn it on because they didn’t believe me.
While the Futaba 4PKS weighs almost twice as much as the Tactic, it does not feel ‘heavy’. The weight distribution in the radio is very well done, and it feels good to hold, but this test isn’t about feel.
