ASK Cubby – More Of Your Letters, More Of My Mumbo Jumbo
“HPI/Traxxas Merger
Hey Cubby,
Just saw the article about the possible HPI/Traxxas merger. If it’s true, what do you think that would mean not only for Traxxas, but for the industry as a whole? I hope that the HPI bodies would still be available and that maybe Traxxas would change some of their platforms. I know you’re position on racing, but HPI always had great race cars (Their F1 car and the new Pro 5 come to mind). Curious to know your thoughts.

Cubby- Yo hey ya Eric, thanks for the email and be sure to shoot me your snail mail so the guys in shipping can get ya the hook-up on a sticker pack.
Ya know… I don’t have a crystal ball, but I need one. The guys over at HPI are being super tight-lipped, and well, Traxxas is pretty much always that way, so don’t expect any PR to come out letting everyone know exactly what is up. Which sucks, because that just leads to a lot of wild speculation.
I have no inside scoop on this one, but I do know that Traxxas is really, really, good at one thing- making money. Which isn’t bad, this is America, and it is what HPI desperately needs, to make lots of money again. So… assuming that Traxxas doesn’t just kill off HPI, that means they will do what is needed to get HPI back on the right track again.
Ya, I know TRX has had some failures lately (LaTrax anyone???), but they have made an insane amount of money for two reasons- 1. they are great at marketing, but mainly 2. they have lots of balls. Traxxas had the balls to go a little harder, aim a little higher, and cut the big checks needed to take their rc game to another level. Only time will tell how this all works out, but if indeed HPI is now under Traxxas rule, IMO I can only see HPI benefiting from it.
“Bash & Smash 2016
Hey Cubby,
What are the rules for Bash & Smash 2016? Can I bring any car I want? Is there any electricity or pit tables at the bash? What do I get if I win?
These questions need answered cause I wanna hang out with you guys. 🙂
Your Eternal Friend,
Cyril Figgis”
Cubby- Ok, judging by the name you used, you obviously know I am quite a fan of the show Archer. Which reminds me… Archer kicks off an all new season tonight at 9pm CST. Which… I am going to miss because I’ll be out with the Bash Crew doing one of our famous Thursday night meals/smack talk/gun shooting fests. Thankfully my DVR has 6% capacity left, meaning the new ep will get recorded for sure so I can view it at my leisure sans commercials (unless my wife is recording 3 shows at once again on a Thurs night, Sigh, so I’m putting the odds at 50/50 that it will actually get recorded).
Oh yes, so you want more of the scoop on BigSquidRC’s raucous 2016 Spring Bash And Smash. Well… the place is Leisure Hours Raceways in Joliet Illinois. The date is Sunday April 17th. The doors open at 10am and we are scheduled to do events like long jumps, rc sumo wrestling, demo derby, and obstacle course, although we normally throw in a surprise event or two. Some lucky guy/gal will be winning a brand spank’n new Traxxas X-Maxx at our event during our raffle, and we normally hand out plaques/certificates to the top guys in each event. Yes, there is plenty of AC power, and yes, there is a ton of pit space, so feel free to bring all your gear/cars. The pitting is indoors, so you’ll be able to wrench in the comfort of heat or air conditioning. Leisure Hours is quite choice, one of the best venues in the good old USA.
So what are the rules? Leave your attitude at home, that is the big one. Show up looking to have a good time, with a smile on your face and love in your heart, I mean, this isn’t the IFMAR worlds. What cars can you drive? Because of the venue, bring anything smaller than 1/5th scale and you will be dialed. You can get in lots of trigger time and make a bunch of new friends, hopefully we’ll see you (and a bunch of your friends) there.
Yup, there it is, another ASK Cubby is in the bank. Have a question? “Need” an answer? Just want to run your mouth? Shoot me an email, thecubreportrc at gmail dot com. If you are so lucky as to make the big time you’ll win a BSRC sticker pack, or if I proclaim your email as “Letter of the Month” (which I will be doing next week) you will win a quite uber BSRC t-shirt.
