Ever since iHobby 2013, I was excited about the coming 3D Printer revolution coming to the hobby world. Not only is 3D printing great for 100% custom anything, it was becoming affordable. After 11 months of waiting, my work (aka HobbyTown Orland Park) finally got a pair of 3D printers from Invent-a-Part called the Rigidbot. Pricing starting around $600 for a kit and works its way [...]
I’m sure I wasn’t the only person a little jealous that the new Blade 350QX2 AP Combo came with new bells and whistles of better Receiver coverage, bigger battery, and more. Luckily for us the 350QX V2 gone, and now we have the 350QX2! Still featuring the same RTF and Bind-N-Fly packages, the 350QX2 touts these new enhancements:White Battery Hatch (BLH7902) White battery hatch compliments the primarily [...]
In all things multirotor, I was excited by Blade Helicopter’s announcement about the new 3D flight modes for the 200QX. I for one quickly ordered the new props, dragged my update cable out of the 350QX case, and was quickly on my way to being ready for inverted flight. Check out the video and my impressions on the upgrade after the jump…
As I write this, Brian was challenged by HobbyTown Steve to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge for charity, and has a mere 20 hours to deliver! Even more impressive, Steve has set the precedent! Using my new Flamewheel 550 from DJI, I let the bucket drop by flying away with that hexcopter. See the video below and comment to help encourage Brian!
Hey guys, during my time at the IRCHA Jamboree, I got a neat little scratch card that ushered me quickly to the Spartan RC booth. I won myself a new helicopter gyro system for flybarless 3D helicopters called the Vortex VX1e. Newly released for purchase first at the Jamboree, I got to see what makes it a great system. Here are the details from SpartanRC: Tail – [...]
If you didn’t see it already, I took a lot of pictures over last weekend when I was at the IRCHA Jamboree 2014. I even walked out of there a winner! In a lot of cases, pictures do the Jamboree justice, but there still is a lot one can talk about that the pictures can’t start to describe. I thought I’d make [...]
This past weekend I had the privilege to join my fellow helicopter and multirotor pilots in Muncie, IN near the headquarters of the AMA for the IRCHA (International Radio Control Helicopter Association) Jamboree 2014. This almost week long festival is a combination of RC helicopter competitions, product showcase, and shopping for all things RC Helicopter. There were speed competitions, product demonstrations, [...]
Hot off the press at IRCHA 2014 Jamboree: SAB Heli Division adds one more collective pitch stunt helicopter to their line: a 380 Size (380mm approx blade size)! Called the Goblin 380, this helicopter only has 38 parts outside of bolts/bearings, which is the lowest part count for a helicopter of that size, EVER! Built to handle a 6S LiPo power system, this helicopter [...]
Nipping on the heels of my unboxing and build of the Invertix400, Blade Helicopters has announced an update for the 200QX Quadcopter to also perform Fully Inverted Maneuvers. Teased at eFest 2014 during the prototype stages, the software update is available now, with propellers for these maneuvers available soon. For the update, one needs the USB cable and props which can be picked up or [...]
Alright, I know that the FAA and AMA are still pretty deadlocked on the new rules as interpreted by the FAA and how it really makes it difficult to be a hobby pilot. Now, the stories and definitions will keep changing as the news is passed along, but I wish to make a few comments towards these rules, as well [...]
That’s right, folks! We are teaming up again with our friends at HobbyTown Orland Park for a good ‘ol bash! Like a kid in a candy store, I quickly got to work building the Invertix 400 from Encore RC and Bobby Watts. It took a couple of hours (I’m very careful with all my builds, so actual time may vary), but she came out looking great! #gallery-5 { margin: auto; } #gallery-5 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-5 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-5 [...]
Here at BigSquidRC we love to run our RCs hard and with that we are always prepared to buy parts when you can’t help but say, ‘Did I do that?’ Multirotors are no exception, and with this ‘Cubby’ style rant I will tell a tale of how I have already needed to mothball one of my aircraft for the rest [...]
A while back I posted the first details of the EncoreRC Invertix400 full-3D capable quadcopter developed by Bobby Watts. The following weeks my email blew up from readers looking for more, or hoping we’d get to fly one and show off video. After talking with Mr. Watts for a few weeks, he got us our own Invertix to build and test! The review is [...]
