Everybody’s Scalin’ – Good Things on Good Friday
You know, being angry or annoyed sure does make it easier to write something usually (just ask Cubby, LOL). Because of this, many times it’s very easy to overlook the good. And since the boss let us out of jail a day early this week (here’s a secret, I’m writing this on Thursday) I’m in a festive mood. Let’s celebrate the good.
This is the happiest I’ve been with the hobby since…well forever. There is so much quality stuff coming out, especially in regards to scaling. I think the biggest story within the genre nowadays isn’t “What’s good?”, it’s “What’s actually bad?”. That’s a great thing.
I’ve spent the last few weeks extensively trailing both the RC4WD Trail Finder 2 and Axial RR10 and, while completely different, both are frickin’ blasts to wheel. They are both at opposite ends of spectrum (the Bomber jumps and bowls over anything, whereas the Trail Finder is precision oriented and uber scale) but both demonstrate the great range of stuff in this segment.
Another thing that’s a huge boon to the hobby is how easy Facebook has made it for groups to get together. Using my hometown of St. Louis as an example, three years ago there was really only one main group of trail aficionados. Today? There are at least 4-5 big ones and that’s all thanks to the magic of social media.
On a more personal note, one of the things that has me happiest is seeing companies like JConcepts, Pro-Line, and RC4WD offering all sorts of parts and pieces for the solid axle monster truck crowd. I’ve had to pinch myself as of late to make sure I’m not stuck in a 1990’s fever dream.
I’ll leave with this – The best part is yet to come…soon. Look, I really dislike when people act all “I know something you don’t, neener, neener, neener!”, but there are a couple massive releases that are on verge of happening and with it being tax season and all I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention it. Without getting into specifics, if you have a big return coming it may behoove you to stash a few Benjamins in your sock drawer. You’ve been warned!
Have a great weekend!
