EVERYBODY’S SCALIN’ – WHEN WILL THEY LEARN?
New Bright RC is not a hobby grade RC yet they seem to sneak their way into the hobby grade world for one main reason. It’s not the amazing speed or the durability that I am talking about, it’s those hard bodies! Some of the best looking hard bodies out there, believe it or not, are New Bright RC. So why waste such good bodies and detail on cheap toy grade RC’s?
I don’t expect to see New Bright get into the hobby grade game. They have been in business for a long time and obviously they know what they are doing. But why haven’t they realized that the bodies they put on their $60.00 RC cars are worth more then the full price of the vehicle and in some cases double the value. In my opinion what New Bright does now is a good thing. By that, I mean getting kids interested in the hobby at a very affordable price. And hey, I still buy New Bright RC’s from time to time just to play around.
But if New Bright RC was to also sell their bodies by themselves I think they would be shocked at the demand and profit they would receive. So many of the bodies are just begging for a hobby grade chassis. For example, most come with empty light buckets, full interiors and drop tailgates. I guess this is turning out to be more of a rant than anything. For years I have felt that New Bright would kill it in the scale RC body world. Last weekend I was at the thrift store and found a New Bright Rammunition and that just re-opened the wound. The amount of scale detail just seems like a waste on cheap plastic chassis and electronics.
For now, I guess we will just have to keep stripping New Bright Bodies from their toy chassis. And in case you are in the stores this winter and see a New Bright that looks good but don’t have a tape measure with you to check the wheel base. Their 1/8 scale trucks fit the Axial SCX10 ii with a little bit of fabricating but nothing crazy. And the 1/10 scale New Brights fit the ECX 1/12 Barrage quite nicely. Ok, I feel better now. Have a great weekend everyone and get out, hit the trials and Keep Scalin’.
