Monster Truck Madness – Flyin’ in to the Holiday Weekend
Hello everyone and Happy Thursday!
As we head into the upcoming Memorial Weekend here in the States, I’ve got no coherent singular topic to focus on, but I do have a good deal of random things to discuss!
First off, shout out to my friends and fellow monster truck racers Isaac Ankrom and Josh Rhodes for kicking ass at the R/C Monster Jam World Finals last weekend in LA. Isaac wound up taking third in racing and Josh won the freestyle competition. Not only was there stiff competition, but they were performing in front of a large crowd of onlookers and that can be difficult in and of itself. Nice work, fellas.
Earlier this week, Team Associated announced they are re-releasing the RC10T as a limited edition kit. I like the old school buggies and all, but classic stadium trucks REALLY tug on my heart strings. Especially seeing those big ‘ol pin spike tires. We as a hobby have lost sight of how awesome those old school pin spikes are/were! I’m only partly kidding here. Yes, modern tires make more sense…but I love how everything back in the day had gnarly pins. Remember the Pro-Line Maxx Mulchers for Maxx monster trucks? You could damn near aerate a yard with them!
There have been a ton of really cool monster truck bodies released as of late. JConcepts has come out with Aerostar Vans of different sizes for different trucks, as well as Losi LMT (and other long wheel based trucks) sized Chevy S10 and ’79 Ford getups (P.S. you will see one of my Rotten Apple monsters sporting that ’79 Ford shortly). Pro-Line has just announced a licensed Avenger 1957 Chevy Bel Air. The variety of shells out there these days for the r/c monster trucker is truly mind blowing compared to how it used to be.
Horizon Hobby R/C Fest is coming up shortly. Taking place June 7th and 8th in Champaign, IL, R/C Fest features all sorts of cool stuff. You can check out the info here. If you’ve never seen professional level r/c pilots doing their thing in the air, buddy you are missing out!
Saturday, June 15th, the BIGFOOT 4×4 crew is holding their annual Open House in Pacific, MO! I’ll be there helping to host an r/c monster truck race with the Trigger King R/C crew, and I’ll post detailed event information next week here in Monster Truck Madness!
To finish off this rambly post, I’ll be spending the holiday weekend working on completing my mystery r/c tank. I am having a freakin’ BLAST with this project so far, and I look forward to discussing it very shortly. And while the tank I’m working on is going to stay a proper replica military tank, I’m already planning on getting another and turning it into a monster tank.
Stay safe out there this weekend, all. Until next time, keep it on all 4’s!
