Monster Truck Madness – It’s nice to win one
Hello everyone and Happy Thursday!
Ya know, I’ve been racing solid axle retro monster trucks for 10 years now, and up until last weekend I had never won an actual race day event in that class. That finally changed last Sunday! And wouldn’t you know it, I wasn’t even driving my own truck, ha.
I won the day’s Trigger King R/C Retro Clod competition with Orange Outlaw, which is owned by my good friend Chris Blank. His nickname in the club is the Clodfather.
This Clod is a JConcepts Regulator build that’s decked out with all of the trick JConcepts Shapeways parts for Clod axles. The tubes/knuckles in particular really make a difference as to the overall handling of the truck, as they allow for a tighter turning radius than the stockers.
It has a brass chassis weight that helps keep the center of gravity low, and the blue compound JConcepts Golden Years with Slam Tech closed cell foam inserts allow the limited suspension to do it’s job the best that it reasonably can.
As such, it’s an absolute monster on the race track and is extremely easy to drive. Those of you out there who own Clods but have never driven a decked out Regulator….they are Cadillacs.
They are still Clods, mind you, but they are way less bumbly and rolly….excellent descriptors, but I’m sure many of you know what I mean.
Winning and losing an r/c race isn’t something that’s as important to me as it used to be, as these days I’m most happy when the overall event goes smooth enough, but it feels great to win one!
Thanks to Chris for letting me wheel his rig!
Until next time, keep it on all 4’s!
