Monster Truck Madness – Plans for the Max Smasher

Heya folks and Happy Friday to you!

I hope ya’ll enjoyed both the written and video reviews of the FMS Max Smasher Monster Truck that were posted last week.

Long story short- I enjoy the Max Smasher. I’m kind of surprised it’s taken a company this long to do a quality micro scale solid axle monster, but one now exists. And it does feel like a monster truck, albeit one on a very small scale.

I do specify the “very small scale” part because it does feel a bit odd driving a monster truck with absolutely zero weight to it. I don’t think that’s really a critique of the Max Smasher so much as how small scale just kinda is. They are all featherweights at that size!

So with the review done, it’s time to start hopping it up. I plan to put in the FMS High Speed Motor and Heat Sink that I ordered with the truck, as well as add some JConcepts 1/24 monster truck wheels and tires.

I’ve heard the JCon wheels and tires, complete with their baby foams, do add a bit of heft to the model which I’m hoping helps make it feel a smidge more “monster truck-y”. Yes, that’s a scientific term.

I’ll probably put a new body on it, though I also plan to order a set of JB Scale Graphics officially licensed BIGFOOT decals for the stock body as they apparently fit the body very well, and it would be nice to have it all set up in proper livery even if I just use the little hard body for display purposes.

I’m hoping to also make a few scale obstacles for it out of insulation foam. I’m quite handy with a hot foam carving knife, and I think that stuff will make for excellent material given how easy it is to paint and detail to make it look scale.

Look for the Max Smasher goodness in this space soon! I’m going to have fun with it over the winter!

Oh, and speaking of fun over the winter…my Globe Liner build is coming along great and it’s going to be a ton of fun documenting my foray into 1/14 ice road trucking! I’ll provide an update on it soon. Suffice it to say it’s been an absolute blast to build!
