Monster Truck Madness – Time for a Change

Hello everyone and Happy Thursday!

It’s time for an announcement! This week is going to be my last regular weekly Monster Truck Madness post. Please note that I said “last regular” and not “last”!

10 years ago I was one of a group of friends that started up the Trigger King R/C Monster Truck Racing Series in St. Louis, MO. We started by racing mud trucks in the Spring of 2014 (you can find the original event coverage of that first event here), but quickly transitioned to racing monsters. Our first true monster truck race was in August 2014 (event coverage here), and we’ve been going at it either monthly or seasonally ever since!

It’s been a blast and I’m very proud of the role we’ve played, no matter how small it may of been, in helping to advance the popularity of r/c solid axle monster trucks over the last decade- both with our YouTube channel and all of the posts on Big Squid. I’ve had a freakin’ blast racing and meeting people from all over the country.

Over this time, monster truck racing has taken up the majority of my r/c time. I’ve decided that I’m ready to change that, and therefore I’m stepping down in helping to run Trigger King. As a coincidence in timing would have it, so is my long time partner in this, Bob C. Chandler. The club is being turned over to a good group of guys though- longtime friends and racers Chris Blank and Chris Parrish- and they are gonna keep the flame lit!

This post already feels uncomfortably self-serving enough at this point, but I’d remiss if I didn’t thank a ton of people for helping out over the years. Trigger King has always been a massive team effort.

Special thanks to Chris Blank, Bob C. Chandler, Danny Maass, Josh Rhodes, Travis Sutton, Ross Hinshaw, John and Rebecca Arnold at JB Scale Graphics, Jeremy Mark, Chris Parrish, Jason Childress, Lonny Childress, Aaron Janes, Mike Arndt, Habo, Ed Hoorman, Chris Kaelin, Jordan Sicht, Mike White, Isaac Ankrom, Bari Musawwir, Steve Scott, Brandon Scott, Colby Marshall, Mike Bufka, the entire BIGFOOT 4×4 team, Jason Ruona and the JConcepts crew, Greg Sopa and the monster truck nuts at Horizon Hobby, WY Industries, Checkered Flag Hobby Country in St. Louis, Vinyl Images, Josh at Harley Designs, Darren at Mark Twain Hobby Center in St. Louis, Brian, Tim, Cubby, Jeremy and the rest of the team here at Big Squid RC, and of course my wife Jaime- all of you have helped in some capacity over the years and I really appreciate it. Big apologies if I left someone out here- I am kind of riffing off the top of my head!

Thank you to all the readers I have been able to chat with and meet thanks to Trigger King as well! I appreciate your support of the weekly Monster Truck Madness blog post and it’s been awesome to compete against many of you on the racetrack!

Thanks again to everyone who has helped with Trigger King R/C. I’m glad it’s gonna be in good hands going forward.

Fret not, dear reader- I am not getting out of r/c. Heck, I’m not even getting out of r/c monster trucks entirely. I will still run with the TK crew from time to time, just not monthly as it used to be. I’m looking forward to being able to have more time (and more of my hobby budget!) to explore and participate in other areas of r/c that I’ve not been able to engage much with the last few years.

I’ll discuss those plans next week. Until then, keep it on all 4’s!
