Monster Truck Madness – Tiny Trucks
Hello everyone and Happy Thursday!
With Summer arriving here in the Midwest with 100+ degree temperatures, my r/c time over the past week has been spent primarily at the work bench.
A few weeks back I picked a Traxxas TRX-4M High Trail with the purpose of customizing it to be a capable rig that I can easily pack away for some impromptu scaling while traveling, and I’ve started the process.
The new Ford F-150 body was painted in a bright green to match my Rotten Apple fleet of trucks, and it turned out nice. I picked up a set of MT Racing Black Brass Hex Counterweights and they are an awesome product. Not only do they add some weight at all four corners down low, but they also replace the stock hex setup and increase overall width by a bit. They also look like brake pads!
On a small truck like the TRX-4M, adding weight to the axles and additional width is VERY noticeable. It already feels more capable.
My next upgrade is to mate some Treal 1.0″ Aluminum CNC Beadlock Wheels Green with JConcepts “The Hold” tires to give it a tall mud truck look. Note that the green on the wheels doesn’t match the truck body green, so I’ll probably be painting those first. I’ll show you what it looks like once the JConcepts tires arrive and get mounted! Really digging this small Ford so far!
My other small scale project has been working on an Revell 1978 Chevy Blazer “Pulldozer” pulling truck static model kit. I’m eschewing the box art to, big surprise here, paint it up in Rotten Apple colors. Look, at this point pretty much everything I can do in this scheme, Imma do it!
The stock model comes with some standard DOT style off-road tires, but being this is a pulling truck I wanted it to look more the part. I picked up some 1:24 3D printed model pulling tires and wheels from eBay, and used them instead. They are maybe a smidge on the small side if I’m being critical, but I like the look. The truck is basically fully assembled now, so I’m finishing the paint work. I’ll post pics when finished!
That’s it for this week. Next week, the 4th of July holiday falls on the same day that my weekly blog runs (Thursday), so I have something thematically appropriate to talk about!
Until then, keep it on all 4’s!
