The Backyard – 2025 gets rolling with some new releases!
Happy Friday all and welcome to The Backyard.
Lots of news this week, as various companies, most notably Tamiya and Kyosho, announced their 2025 releases at the Nuremberg International Toy Fair in Germany.
Sadly for me, another year without a Juggernaut 2 re-release. Fans of on-road cars and buggies are probably happier though! Tamiya has the BMW license again, and they appear to be making the most of it right away! If you’re interested in seeing the full list of releases, check out this post over on the Tamiya Blog.
Out of everything announced, I am most interested in the Honda City Turbo rerelease. It’s basically an on-road version of a Wild Willy, and they look really cool. They would be a freakin’ blast to race in a parking lot setting!
If you’re interested in what Kyosho announced for the upcoming release year, you can check out the list here. The biggest arrow in their quiver is probably the new Kyosho 1/10 Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86 Fazer D2 Readyset (check out this post for more info). A lot of drift fans are very excited about it!
Not to be outdone by those overseas, back here in the states Horizon Hobby announced the new Losi 1/18 Mini LMT Megalodon 2S 4X4 RTR Brushed Monster Truck. This updated Losi Mini LMT release sees the popular Monster Jam “Megalodon” released as a new body set (the truck has updated suspension links as well, from the previous release). As an aside, I have heard at various times the last few years that outside of Grave Digger, Megalodon sells the most merchandise at Monster Jam shows, so it’s not a surprise to see the big shark made smaller, here.
This is traditionally the time when the industry really gets moving again after the year-end lull, and it sounds like some other big announcements are about to be made shortly by other companies, so buckle up! This is an exciting time- hopefully the hobby really finds its footing again after a tough 2024!
That’s it for me this week, until next time, keep it on all 4’s!
