The Backyard – Retro Releases I’d Like To See
Hey everyone and Happy Friday! Welcome to The Backyard.
Retro releases sure are in these days, at least when it comes to r/c racing! Kyosho Optimas and Team Associated buggies and trucks, oh my! You also have companies like Tamiya, who are always re-releasing various classic stuff.
I love to see it. So much so that I thought it would be fun to put together a list of some retro releases I’d love to see from various companies and genres!
Team Losi LXT Stadium Truck
Some of you may argue that the Losi JRX, JRX2, or JRXT may be more worthy of a re-release than the Losi LXT, but this is my blog I’m the one callin’ the shots! I started racing back in the early 90’s, and I remember when the LXT came out. It was a terror on the race track. I absolutely LOVE me some old school stadium trucks, but given my memories of duking it out with this fella, the LXT takes the cake. Seriously though, Team Losi absolutely needs to enter the retro racer arena at some point, what with their rich racing history, so if not this truck then hopefully they do SOMETHING else!
Axial SCX10 (Original Kit Release)
Oh yes folks, this may not be from the 80’s or 90’s, but this is still very retro! 2008 was the release of the first gen SCX10, and it came with the CF-100 Kustom body. 2008 may not seem like it was that long ago, but it’s been 16 years! A limited edition reproduction kit would be a lot of fun. I’ve owned various Gen 1 SCX10’s, but I came on-board to scaling when the Dingo kit was out, so I’d love to have a crack at owning an OG style one! I’d argue there are a lot of folks who would too.
Tamiya Juggernaut 2
The Juggernaut 2 was a release that came out ahead of it’s time. These days, the solid axle monster truck crowd is salivating for a proper leaf spring equipped old school style monster, and the Jugg checks a lot of boxes. Heck, for a long time now hobbyists have been using Jugg/TXT-1 transmissions and axles for retro monster truck builds, so it would be fantastic if the entire truck just came back on-line! I think these would sell shockingly well for the big T.
Traxxas RADicator
The Traxxas RADicator, released during the heydey of the early 90’s off-road racing scene, is another vehicle that I slugged it out with on the race track back in the day. It’s kind of shocking that as popular as Traxxas has become, they don’t really do a lot to celebrate their early days. The RADicator would be a really fun re-release, and I think it’s the only one on this list that came as a RTR! Yep, Traxxas was truly ahead of the game with their RTR releases. The paint on this dude is extremely RAD, so seeing it come back with the same scheme would be perfect.
This list was a lot of fun to come up with- what would YOU like to see re-released? Drop me a line at doug@bigsquidrc.com and let me know what you think!
Until next time, keep it on all 4’s!
