The Backyard – Round and Round

Greetings all and a Happy Friday to you! Welcome to The Backyard.

I really appreciate running this post every Friday, because Thursday is the day that the hobby industry drops most of its news. And this week did not disappoint! Out of nowhere, the Losi 22S Sprint Car was announced!

Losi 22S Sprint Car was announced!

This is both a surprising announcement but also kind of not really. One of my predictions for this year was that scale oval racing was going continue to grow in popularity and see some big releases after the recent success of the 1/12 Losi NASCAR, the Traxxas Slash Modified, and some of the cool smaller scale 1RC releases. I’d say the combo of the Losi Sprint Car and forthcoming 2025 NASCAR bodes extremely well for this to indeed be true!

While an oval car wasn’t really a surprise to me, a dead-nuts scale Sprint Car was/is a surprise. They absolutely crushed the look of this. Even if you were never going to run it, it would look awesome on the shelf of any winged race car nut. Those wheels and tires- chomp!

Thankfully though, it looks like it was built to race. If you have any interest in the car, I would strongly recommend the video below as it goes in detail on the design and engineering of the vehicle.

I was a dirt oval racer back when the original Losi Slider sprint car was out there, but not many used it because it wasn’t a true race vehicle like the kits from Custom Works and the like. This release looks like it is.

Gun to my head, the most fun r/c racing I’ve ever experienced is dirt oval. Yep, even more than monster truck racing. Slugging it out on Saturday nights with late models, sprint cars, modifieds….it was a freakin’ blast.

Hopefully this proves to be a popular release for Losi and many folks find their way to oval racing because of it! Head over to their Losi Sprint Car page for details.

Ok, that’s it for me this week, folks. Until next time, keep it on all 4’s!
