THE Cub Report, 03.23.2015, Version- I Never Thought I Would Say It…
I never thought I would say it, but I think the only company that can fix rc racing is Traxxas. If you ever hit one of their rc races at a TORC event, they kept it real- REAL fun and REAL laid-back, like rc racing should be.
I never thought I would say it, but driving a car with a sound module is pretty damn cool. Oh, and so is driving one with electronic stability control. Seriously, new high-zoot electronics have brought rc to a whole new level (for those with the balls to actual use the stuff).
I never thought I would say it, but some little nitro engine company called Axial is pwn’ing sales at many of an LHS with their off-road trucks. Time sure flies doesn’t it? It wasn’t that long ago that Axial was primarily a nitro engine company, now they are making millions on scale trucks.
I never thought I would say it, but I miss Twister motors. Oh, and I miss my old AYK buggy too (chain driven woo-hooo!). Ya, they sucked technology wise, but even I like doing some vintage action. REAL vintage action, not a new wanna-be vintage re-release.
I never thought I would say it, but bashing is actually cooler than racing now days. Funny how that worked out, eh? For decades the media force fed racing down everyone’s throats, all the while most people were in their backyard making ramps out of plywood. Finally it is “acceptable” to bash.
I never thought I would say it, but Traxxas’s reign at the top looks to be nearly over. Noobs are still keeping them at the top of the sales chart, but while the cat is gone the mice will play, in this case the other manufacturers have been making up a lot of ground. It was a good run for TRX, a decade and a half is no joke, but if they don’t start releasing some uber new products (and quick!!!), the slide down the hill will be a bumpy one.
I never thought I would say it, but I think some of the racer types are starting to catch on that events that last a week (or more!) are actually too freak’n long.
I never thought I would say it, but Facebook isn’t that bad. Just kidding, FB is still the Devil. You might not see it from the consumer side, but things on the industry/advertiser side are just plain ugly.
I never thought I would say it, but forums are dying. Who would have thought, the almighty forums that have been so solid for so many years have actually met their match with FB groups.
I never thought I would say it, but yes, I am gonna keep this Cub Report short (for once). Feel free to add your own “I never thought I would say it…” in the comments, but you have to log into FB to leave a comment and who the hell wants to do that? Sigh…
But (because I didn’t have enough buts in this CR) before I go, don’t forget to vote in our March Bashness contest! Vote for your favorite bash machine and let the whole world know which truck/buggy/car is your favorite bash machine! Seriously, it is fun to see who wins the brackets and people in the industry monitor the winners like a hawk. Get your votes in, have fun, and somebody will win big at the very end!
Yo that’s it my homeskillets, have a great week in rc, and support your local hobby shops and bash spots when you have the opportunity.
