THE Cub Report – As The Wheels Turn
Well hello there, my name is Cubby and this is my weekly column on rc. Sometimes THE Cub Report is about product news, sometimes it is just worthless rambling, but either way, shall we dive on in???
Even though our podcast with JConcepts’ Jason Ruona has been up a couple weeks, I had yet to listen to it. Over the weekend we (myself and some bash crew members) listened to the entire podcast while at the track testing and it’s a good time. Tim Gluth has such the professional voice doing the podcasts, we desperately need to get him to a trade show to rub some elbows. Tim is based out of Wisconsin and works remotely, so we’ve yet to have the chance to properly initiate him into the BSRC family. Anywhos, Jason has grown JConcepts from a tiny start-up, to a full on contender in recent years. He has put in crazy airplane miles, as well as his heart and soul, to make JConcepts a cutting edge rc company. Right now is an incredibly hard time to make cash in the rc market, but Jason is showing that it is possible, you just gotta put out the right products at the right time. Our review of the Traxxas Maxx went live last week and we are STILL beating on that truck. The Maxx represents the future of 1/10th bashing for Traxxas and we highly approve. We hear there are a slew of factory upgrades coming for it directly from Traxxas, we can’t wait to see what they have up their sleeves for the Maxx. I will say one of the first things I would like to see is a widening kit. Stock the Maxx looks like a Maxx, and that isn’t a bad thing, but I would love to see a bit of extra width for hardcore bashing.
The crew at Losi dropped the 2.0 version of the DBXL-E last week. Expect to see a lot more “SMART” technology showing up in Horizon RTRs. The DBXL-E 2.0 sports a slew of upgrades, with the highlight being new SMART electronics. Available with either Fox or Losi livery, the DBXL-E 2.0 also looks sharp. I expect to see a lot of these hogging up all the room under X-Mas trees across the country this winter season.
Our test/bash crew has been slammed the last few weeks working on reviews. We have a bunch in the pipeline, with reviews coming soon for Futaba, Sweep, Gmade, Losi, Spektrum, etc products in very near future. We’ve been driving several of the new SMART tech speedos from Spektrum, as well as new belted tires from Sweep. Our review for the Futaba 4PM is just a few days away, and while I won’t spill the beans, we were absolutely blown away with how well it drove. Any which way, from scale crawlers, to monster trucks, to radios & servos, we’ve got a ton of reviews to catch up on.
One more note before I go. Our drift column called “Losing Grip” is really on point. Martin has done a great job of coming up with various drift related topics and has put in the time to help new drift guys get up and running. Check out Losing Grip after the jump.
So there ya have it, and there ya are, another edition of THE Cub Report is in the books. Until next week, support your local hobby shops and bash spots when ya can.
