THE Cub Report, El Version- Revenge Is A Dish Best Served Via Drone Attack

Hello to one and all out in rc land, it’s another Monday which means Cub Report day to all you industry types. What shall we talk about around the water cooler today? A little bit of this, and a little bit of that…

Last week saw several new 1/10th 2wd buggy releases. TLR announced their V3.0 22 buggy to the world, Schu revealed an updated KF2, and even AE jumped in the fray with a version of their B5M that comes with a load of tuning options. No doubt about it, all the old fart racers at local indoor tracks are keeping the buggy market alive. They don’t look like anything in the real world, but those old school guys are more than a tad bit resistant to change, therefore they love’em to death. Anything to keep the hobby the same that it was back in 1985 when they got in is how they like it, no need to actually change for the advancement of the hobby. Sigh… not good for the hobby long term, but admittedly they are fun to drive on a high-bite indoor track.

Axial Racing and Tower Hobbies just might have pulled off another brilliant marketing maneuver. Very shady (read crappy) pics of the new Axial RR10 Bomber starting popping up on the web last Friday, pictures taken of the last Tower print flyer that was sent out to consumers. Immediately hardcore scaler/crawler types around the country started calling everyone they knew in hopes of laying their hands on an issue to get more information. When was the last time that happened? People actually scrambling to get their hands on a print rc ad? Consumers also scoured the Tower website, hitting refresh in hopes of learning more about the RR10. Brilliant I tell you, simply brilliant.

I don’t have to tell you that quads/drones are taking over the world, you’ve probably seen all our quad posts lately. They are a buzz sector on Wall Street and they are even taking over my local Fry’s. When Fry’s has an entire isle dedicated to Yuneec (pronounced unique) you know the world is a changing. Horizon got on the Yuneec train early, helping supply their products to your LHS, now it seems the entire world has jumped on. Well except for me, I still just don’t get the high-end video quad game. Ok, I get it for some people (like realtors, high schools, and photographers), but I don’t get it how it could have gotten so mainstream.

Btw, all that quad mania has absolutely gutted the heli sector, or at least relegated it to an even deeper corner of the rc world. There are still some gnar-core heli guys out there, but they are dwindling fast, and selling heli products right now has got to be harder than selling snow cones to Eskimos.

Next week I’ll be doing my annual “What The BSRC Bash Crew Wants For X-Mas” Cub Report. I haven’t asked the guys yet, but I am guessing the Traxxas X-Maxx is gonna be on a whole lot of people’s list. I know from talking to a bunch of different people in the industry that the aftermarket companies can’t wait to get their hands on it and start making some uber upgrade parts. It is nice to see those guys getting so stoked on a new platform, can’t wait to see what they turn out.

In review news, this week we’ll be posting our review of the Wasteland series vehicles from Dromida, you know, the ones that shoot foam rockets. I won’t spoil all the fun, but yes, they are a lot of fun to play with. We are also finishing up our Axial Trophy Truck review. All I have to say is “Wow!” at the amount of detailing they put into that body. Seriously, the amount of fine detail they put into the trophy truck body is amazing, finally a SCT looking truck that has some serious realism to it. Oh ya, our Trophy Truck review should go live about a week and a half from now.

Raise your hand if you care about the hobby. I see a lot of hands out there going up, so if you truly care about your hobby try to drop by your LHS this week, yes, even if it sucks. At least poke your head in and say hello, they might surprise you with all the trick stuff they have in stock.

Later ya freaks, see ya next week and try to support your local hobby shops and bash spots when ya can.

YOUR Cub Reporter

P.S.- Yes, the picture above is me actually marrying a pair of very kick ass people. You never, ever know what I’ll do next. Just say’n…
